Two new Nether murals in Park Heights!

Nether, a local Baltimore street artist and muralist, has murals all over the city of Baltimore. I love his work because he paints murals that are not only beautiful, but extremelely relevant and specific to the community they are being painted in, meaning he spent time learning about the communities and getting input from the people in the neighborhoods. Over the past few weeks Nether and the organization he co-directs, Arts & Parks, which “seeks to blend street art and purposeful landscaping to create holistic spaces for Baltimore neighborhoods” (https://www.artsandparks.org), have completed two new murals along with landscaping and beautification of the space.

The first of the two murals is located on 3119 W. Belvedere Ave., which acts as an entrance to the Spaulding Lot. The second mural is located in the Spaulding Lot, off of Spaulding Ave. While looking at the murals I ran into two men, who had grown up in the neighborhood, they both told me that the Spaulding Lot used to be a Caribbean “Pan Yard” where people would gather to play steel drums. They described how much fun the “Pan Yard” used to be and how everyone in the neighborhood would gather together and enjoy their time. As you can see in the photos below people were already spending time and enjoying a BBQ in front of the murals and the beautified space!

Be sure to check out Nether’s work. You can find him on Instagram @nether410, through his website nether410.com, and through his organizations website www.artsandparks.org
